Moving Checklist

6-8 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING DATE

• Select a moving company and ensure you have the date secured


• Go through each room in your house and decide on items you no longer have use for. Arrange to sell or donate these items


• Take measurements of hallways, and doorways, making sure items can get through in current and prospective home


• Get your supplies. Purchase boxes or bins to start packing your belongings. You can also find local companies that rent out recyclable plastic bins. You may also want to get bubble or foam wrap as well as packing paper


• Ensure your children’s school is aware of the move, especially if they will be changing schools

4 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING DATE

• Locate the User's manual for your electronics and ensure you keep them in a safe place to read closer to the moving date


• Start off with packing items you know you will not need to use like photo albums, wall art, decorative pieces, China, off season clothing and gear


• Kitchens can be the most onerous to pack. Start packing these items early

2 WEEKS BEFORE MOVING DATE

• Call your moving company to confirm moving date


• Finish packing most of what's left


• Notify all third parties about your move and new address:
  
  
  1. Have your mail forwarded with Canada Post
  
  
  2. Your utilities provider
  
  
  3. Your internet, T.V, & phone service provider (Rogers, Bell)
  
  
  4. Your tax office Canada Revenue Agency
  
  
  5. Your insurance and banking institutions
  
  
  6. Your driver's licence and health card with SERVICE CANADA DRIVERS LICIENCE , SERVICE CANADA HEALTH CARD
  
  
  7. Your employer, schools, dentist and doctor

1 DAY BEFORE MOVING DATE

• Call your moving company to confirm time of moving


• Clean your appliances and unplug


• Dismantle your electronics and ensure they are packaged securely, by reading the user's manual

Moving day!

• Dismantle beds


• Do a quick inventory of all your belongings and sign off on it with mover


• Ensure you have refreshments on hand for yourself and the movers
